A Roadmap for Data Migration Success
According to Bloor Research, the average Global 2000 company is working on 4.5 data migrations each year, with the vast majority of data migration projects delivered late and/or over budget.
That’s because data migration is not yet recognised as a discipline, so the scope of these projects is often underestimated.
In cases where migrated data is transformed for new uses, project teams can encounter some very specific management and technical challenges. For example, a team that has been writing extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) code for a data warehouse faces a new set of challenges when migrating data to a live, operational system. Although a 2% error rate may be acceptable for aggregate reporting, it is not acceptable for customer contact data.
To ensure a successful data migration you need to:
- Assess and understand source data at an early stage.
- Use data profiling, data quality and data integration tools to drive productivity, time to market, and transparency for data governance.
- Use Business Intelligence reports and dashboards to monitor progress.
By attending this event, you will be provided with insight into what issues are unique to data migration projects and given advice on how to best approach them. |
