Jennifer Thomson is a research manager in IDC's European Services Group. In this role she provides insights on the key issues and trends affecting the outsourcing and application services markets. Primary focus areas include outsourcing contract analysis, governance issues, vendor positioning and competitive stance, and industry-specific process issues. Thomson is also involved in research for the European Outsourcing with Vertical Market Views service.

Thomson joined IDC in 2001 and, prior to joining the European Services Group in 2006, was employed to initiate research in the area of IT opportunities in the manufacturing industry. In this capacity, she provided clients with in-depth market forecasts and analysis of industry dynamics for ICT and business strategies in manufacturing and consumer products sub-vertical industries, and how they impact on vendors, industry executives, and IT users. Thomson has been responsible for the execution of a broad range of consulting and advisory projects, and has developed in-depth research on the evolution of rules and behaviour in the formation of collaborative business and governance models within the consumer products value chain.

As IDC European spokesperson on IT and business strategies, Thomson is an experienced public speaker and regularly presents at IDC conferences, IDC partner and end-user events, and IT-user association conferences.

Prior to joining IDC, Thomson spent three years with Compaq Computer EMEA as a senior research analyst. Thomson has a Bachelor's Degree in International Business with German from Sheffield Hallam University (United Kingdom) and Pforzheim Fachhochschule (Germany).
